The business of beauty!

Premiere Orlando Beauty Expo 2014

Wow… I just finished attending the Premiere Orlando Beauty Expo and I am.. exhausted!!
This is such an amazing experience to be a part of as a licensed beauty professional,   I figured I would share with you a bit of my experience!
First let me tell you that I love… LOVE conventions!   When I was an AVON representative I would go to every single convention and even traveled to New Orleans and Las Vegas to attend them.   Conventions are such a great way to learn more about your trade as well as continue your education.   Because let’s face it…. Being part of the beauty industry you have to be the product of the product and always be “in the know” when it comes to trends, styles, and “know-how’s” so you can turn around and provide the best service.   Here in Orlando, from what I have observed. . The competition is fierce in all areas.

So.. I bought the 3 day ticket.  However I had so much going on that I had to miss the 1st day (which totally sucked since I ended up missing a massage class I really wanted to attend), but I got to attend the Nail tech networking event Saturday night.  This is an event that I had been dying to go in previous years and it was soon worth it!   I got to see so many amazing nail artist.  Various nail companies showcased their latest and greatest products and techniques.

I stopped by Harmony’s “Prohesion” table,  where I got a nail demo’ed by none other than Bryan Nguyen, a master educator for Harmony.  I love it how they make it seem so easy and effortless!

I even got a 3-d gel sculpted rose by Gina Silvestro from Akzents.  As my focus is acrylics. . I was truly amazed at what could be achieved with gel!

The best part by far is how many goodies I got!  Products from big name companies such as China Glaze, Gelish, Kupa, Akzents, and Morgan Taylor just to name a few… I’m gonna have a blast trying out these new lines! (Hint hint. .. product review anyone?)

The following day, after spending what felt like an eternity.. I found parking and off I went.. my mission?  To redeem all the coupons for free products! At some point during the morning I chose to sign up for the nail magazine subscription and was pleasantly surprised when they gave me another goodie bag from the night before! So I got the DOUBLE of freebies!!! And are you ready?! Another coupon book for free products! !! Heaven… I’m in heaven I tell you!  My next mission was to find this booth. ..

And boy did I find it! After checking this product out at my nail supply store. . I fell head over heels in love!  It is a brand new product and a game changer when it comes to manicures and pedicures in mobile Spa environments!  It is now available at The Henna Studio as an add on service, as well as mani/pedi services but it’s also available for purchase to take home with you!   Contact us for more info!

The highlight of my day was attending my first nail charity event that evening that was held to recognize and honor a young lady who at the age of 11 started her own non profit organization where she goes to hospitals and does mini manicures and nail art to sick children.   She is now 14yrs old and going strong!  It is so great to see such wonderful role models for our youth!  And then. . I got another goodie bag! What I really loved about this goodie bag…

One of my favorite polish lines “The Color Club” named 2 polish colores after her charity work!  How great is that?!  If you want to check out her work go to  By the time I got home it was well past 10pm… I was at the convention for approximately 12 hours and I survived!

Monday came and I was able to take a few classes but most importantly I was able to get my new gel manicure system!  Complete with an LED light and all!   I chose Harmony’s Gelish system because I have heard great reviews, and as nail tech is easily accesible for me to just run to the store and grab anything I need from this brand.   So I’m excited to try this new product out on my clients!
I love talking pics at this show so here I leave you with some pics of it for you to enjoy!

My stash of nail product freebies from the show! SCORE!

Premiere Orlando Beauty Expo is definitely one of the things I have grown to look forward to every year!  Had a chance to see new products,  meet new friends (including a salon owner in Bermuda, how cool is that?!) And reunite with some old friends in the industry!  Now onto a very fruitful remainder of 2014!

Bring in the new year!

Thinking back of how 2013 has been in my career as a henna artist… I can only think I’m blessed.  Despite of all the hardships..  The Henna Studio is getting to be known.   I had quite a few brides and bellies and tons of private appointments.

It is such a privilege to have a prospective client choose me because they like my work and all that it entails.  I take pride not only on my art but also on the services I provide.  So from the bottom of my heart I thank you, my past client, for choosing The Henna Studio for your event beauty needs!

Here’s to 2013… thank you for all the opportunities to be part of very special women as they embark on their new lives as spouses!  Thank you for having been surrounded by amazing people that supported me and encouraged me, even when I was at my lowest.

And the best way to start 2014 is with this picture… my last bride of 2013 and my first professional picture of 2014!

I’ve been yelped!

This past Sunday November 17, I was invited to participate in Yelp!‘s Bohemian Bash as an up and coming business!  To say I was excited totally minimizes how I felt to be invited to participate in this awesome “invite only” event!  All to benefit The Harbour House of Central Florida.  Even if I didn’t know anyone… it felt really cool to just know my baby.. my business was going to be part of this!

I spent the whole week prior to this inventing in my head how I could turn an ordinary  all purpose tent into a little oasis to greet a crowd of event goers…  I scoured the stores for just the right stuff… my tent went from this…

To this awesome henna oasis!

Details made it more charming and inviting!

I was swamped with a continuous line from beginning to end.  Which meant that every time I looked up… wait… I couldn’t look up! lol I was dishing out henna love left and right!  I was lucky to take a few pictures so I hope you enjoy some of the henna sampling that went on at The Bohemian Bash!

The following was taken by yelper Lisa W… check her out in Yelp! I loved reading her various reviews!!!

Isn’t it like an awesome picture?!

With all the pictures that were taken by the amazing Bokeh Studio, I must admit the following is my favorite just cuz… I don’t get that many pics of me actually doing henna! (psst… go ahead and click where it says post and you’ll see me in action!)  Post by The Bokeh Studio.

I indeed had wonderful time chatting with the yelpers while I dished out some henna love!  Now, being totally new to Yelp! I got to learn a few things…  those that belong to a Yelp! community… are called yelpers! (did you check out my wristband up top?!)  They do events and introduce their yelpers to various event experiences and venues..  and this venue ladies and gentlemen was definitely an experience!  So I present to you …  The Acre Orlando, with all it’s little nooks, and spots, and havens and literally an oasis I have to say it is an amazing well kept secret in Central Florida!  Definitely not expected, but expect it to totally wow you.  But let me show you and you be the judge…

This venue by far was the best choice to host a Bohemian Bash!  So now I can say I have been yelped by none other than Yelp! itself!

To new beginnings!

There’s something to be said for a blank surface.  It always gives us a chance to start over.  So after many mental attempts to start a henna blog… Here I go again!  I will be writing about henna of course but also about other services we provide such as facepainting and nails.  But you’ll also read about my other adventures, maybe some musings here or there!

Feel free to follow The Henna Studio via social media!!  facebook ~ instagram ~ pinterest & twitter!!

I hope you enjoy it :)
